Museum Quick Stop ~ Visiting the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois certainly can be an all-day affair but as I only had a short time in Chicago I focused on the highlights of the MSI museum. I certainly plan on another visit to the MSI as it contains so much to explore and the building itself is of personal historic interest as it was the former Palace of Fine Arts from Chicago’s 1893 World Columbian Exposition. The museum is located in Jackson Park, in the Hyde Park neighborhood between Lake Michigan and The University of Chicago.
Among the museum’s many offerings are a Giant Dome Theater, replica Coal Mine, Science of Storms exhibit, actual German submarine U-505 captured during World War II, a 3,500-square-foot model railroad, the command module of Apollo 8, the Pioneer Zephyr the first diesel-powered streamlined stainless-steel passenger train, and even a Fairy Castle. There are exhibits and activities for people of all ages. I was very impressed with the large objects such as the U-505 submarine exhibit and the aircraft in the Museum’s Transportation Gallery.
